Institute of Engineering has important national and institutional objectives. To name a few are:

To produce Engineering manpower needed to meet national aspirations and goals. At present it is producing Masters, Engineers and Overseers.

To conduct various research and development works so as to strengthen the national engineering capabilities and solve engineering problems in the country.

To offer various types of training, research works, sponsored courses, conduct problem oriented research and provide engineering consultancy services. This objectives caters towards greater mobilization of the IOE human and physical resources for the technical advancement of the nation. In addtion to this, these activities help to bridge the increasing gap between the IOE's financial needs and resources. Similarly, this objective can contribute to broaden the professional experience of the IOE staff, as well as, to supplement the staff earning so as to retain the staff within IOE by offering them additional financial incentives.
