Eastern Region Campus (Purwanchal Campus) is situated in beautiful town Dharan of Sunsari district of eastern region of Nepal. This campus is one of the associate engineering campuses of Institute of Engineering under Tribhuvan University. It was established in 1978 under the loan agreement between the Asian Development Bank and His Majesty's Government of Nepal. The loan agreement was around five million US Dollars. The technical assistance was provided by the government of United Kingdom. The campus firstly started trade level courses in Mechanical, Electrical and Civil engineering subjects as specified in the loan and the project agreements. Presently, it is offering diploma courses in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering and from 2000/2001 academic year bachelor degree course in Agriculture Engineering has also been started.
Purwanchal Campus is apart of IOE whose products have come out to be the topper in Asian Institutes in Thailand and Japan and the like. IOE has been listed third among the ten best Asian Institutes by Bangkok based Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Objectives The major objectives of Purwanchal Campus is to help IOE in achieving its objectives. other objective of this campus is to offer various types of training, sponsored courses, conduction problem oriented research and provide engineering consultancy services. This objective caters towards modification of the human and physical resources for the technical advancement of the nation. In addition to this, these activities help bridge the increasing gap between Purwanchal Campus financial needs and resources. Similarly, this objective can contribute to broaden the professional experience of the campus staff as well as to supplement the staff income so as to retain the staff within campus itself by offering them additional financial incentives. Features Faculties Purwanchal Campus has highly qualified, experienced and devoted teaching professionals in various disciplines. Campus Premises and Class Rooms Southern boundary of the campus is joined to the dense forest area and plenty of evergreen trees are grown within the campus it self which provides environmentally pleasant and tranquil atmosphere all around the campus premises. Similarly, well ventilated, lighted and furnished class rooms with nominal teacher student ratio gives a perfect academic environment for the students. Library The campus has been making considerable effort to the development of an outstanding library collection to serve the increasing needs of the students and teachers in their teaching learning activities. So far, the library has about 20 thousands volumes and journals. Laboratories The campus has six fully equipped labs, four in engineering and two in science. Civil Engineering department has Engineering materials, soil, hydraulics and structure labs. Electrical engineering department has power lab, electrical measurement lab, machine lab and repair./maintenance lab. Mechanical Engineering department has metrology lab and welding/testing lab. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning department maintains fully equipped sophisticated lab to meet domestic, commercial and industrial needs.
Apart from the above laboratories, there are other well equipped computers and science laboratories to cater the needs as required by the prescribed courses.
