Objectives

  • Establish a high quality network of solar radiation measurements in the Himalayan region, 4 in Nepal and 4 in Tibet.
  • Investigate potential use of solar energy in both countries using solar radiation maps.
  • Establish air pollution measurement laboratory at an urban station in Nepal.
  • Study effects of altitude, aerosols (pollution), ozone and albedo on UV radiation.
  • Validation of satellite UV radiation data at high altitudes with ground based data from the ground based network.
  • Validation of UV index forecast models in high mountain area.
  • Establish quality research within Environment Physics of these academic institutions.
